WHAT IS A LEAKY FEEDER CABLE?

Two-way radios are a great tool for ensuring that staff members communicate with each other. Two-way communication is more crucial for large businesses that span many sites. Two-way radios are a great option as mobile phone signal coverage can vary and can cause problems. This can impact safety and the running of your business. Two-way radios are able to reach all areas of your business, regardless of whether they are underground, rural, or in densely populated cities with signal blocking buildings. Your two-way radio signal can be trusted with a leaky feeder to keep you in touch and your business running smoothly. What is a leaky feed? How does it work?

What’s a leaky feeder?

A leaky feeder cable, also known as a “radiating cable”, is an alternative to traditional RF antenna networks. A normal feeder cable, which is used to connect an antenna repeater, is designed to trap the signal in the cable and prevent any interference signals from reaching the cable. A leaky feeder cable, on the other hand, is designed to allow signals to escape from the cable in controlled ways. The leaky feeder cable allows a controlled amount signal to penetrate the length of the cable simultaneously. A leaky feeder cable acts as an antenna for radios and allows the signal to reach places it wouldn’t otherwise be able to.
